It’s November and the chilly weather is definitely in the air. So why not curl up with something sweet, and with a little heat?! Your cravings will be totally satisfied with my Spicy Beauty Chocolate Truffle Recipe, which is loaded with immunity-boosting chili and energy-opening cacao—you’re sure to see some heat on those cheeks! ;)

Why the heat?

Ancho Chiles

If you’re not an avid user of ancho chiles, here’s a little bit of history. Ancho chiles are a type of dried chile pepper that is commonly used in Mexican and Southwestern U.S. cuisine. It’s the dried version (of the ripe version) of the poblano pepper.

When the poblano is allowed to ripen, they will turn red and develop additional sweetness. This sweetness helps to balance out their mild heat. So to be clear—anchos are red while poblanos are green. Drying poblanos is done for the purpose of preserving them and can be reconstituted by soaking them in warm water. They can also be ground up or crushed, and added to your recipes, such as this one, where I’m using the powdered form.

These peppers fight inflammation, clear congestion and boost immunity, among many other things. Chili peppers are also an excellent source of vitamin A (in the form of beta-carotene).

Ancho Chile Powder is a fun and spicy ingredient to add to all kinds of things, like your soups, salad dressings, and marinades—so why not desserts too?? This pepper will give any chocolate-y dessert or drink a bit of heat!

    Hi Kimberly!
These look yummy! Do you just grind the raw almonds yourself in a food processor?

These look great! Is there appropriate substitution for the ground almonds for our nut-allergic ladies? Thanks!

Hi Sarah and thanks for checking out my recipe…you can substitute with cashews or walnuts or any nut you prefer, and can tolerate allergy wise. Let me know if you give them a try and what you think. Sending lots of love! ;)

Hi ~ a lot of your recipes use coconut water & nectar. Is there something I can use as a substitution? I am allergic to coconut. Very sad ~ for me. Also best oil to sub out for coconut oil.
    ~ thank you

Hi Wende…in this recipe you can try honey to replace the coconut nectar and see how you like the taste, and for other recipes like my smoothies, you can use regular water or try a variety of dairy-free milks (like hemp, almond, etc.). Let us know how you do and sending you lots of love and support! ;)

    Hi Kimberly,
What time of the day do you suggest having a dessert (not fruits)? You roadmap suggests 8pm, but I am not sure whether it is the only time I can have a dessert or any other time of the day would work too. Additionally, how long after a meal do I have to wait before having dark chocolate/dessert?

Hi Natalia – thanks for the great questions. It can be a challenge on when and how to decide what and when to eat. The fact is, we’re all so different and are at different stages of the Beauty Detox Lifestyle. Try out a few times to eat your dessert and write down how you feel afterwards. Before you know it, you will know what your body likes best. Try to remember the rule to not eat heavy meals and then fruit right afterwards. Review my blog posts and just do the best you can. Always remember it’s about making progress and not being perfect, right?! So keep up the great work and sending you so much love and support on this journey! ;)
