Disney Parks Just Shared The Keys To The Kingdom By Releasing Their Churro Recipe (2024)

Forget banana bread, folks, we're making churros.

For the fourth time in its entire history, Disneyland is closed.

It previously closed on 9/11, after the Northridge earthquake, and in the wake of President John F. Kennedy's assassination. This closure is its longest.

It's actually really great that they're closed, as we should all stay safe at home and practice social distancing — but **in my best Winnie the Pooh voice** I'm so rumbly in my tumbly for some of their delicious park snacks.

Anyone else just need a waffle in the shape of Mickey's head right now? Or a big ole turkey leg? No? Just me?

Well! Don't fret, my pets, Disneyland is sharing the sweetness by releasing recipes for some of their yummiest dishes — like their churros!!

Yes! Their churros!! Get ready to sprinkle the magic all over your kitchen.

They posted the recipe through their Disney Parks Blog — it's actually a recipe for Churro Bites, which is honestly probably better. Makes it easier for me to snack on them in front of the TV.

The recipe is quite simple (considering how much joy it will bring into your household) and doesn't take too many ingredients. Here's what you'll need to have on hand:

1 cup water, 8 tablespoons butter, ¼ teaspoon salt, ¾ teaspoon ground cinnamon (divided), 1¼ cups all-purpose flour, 3 eggs, 1½ cups vegetable or canola oil, and ½ cup sugar.

You start by combining the water, butter, salt, and ¼ teaspoon cinnamon in a 1½-quart saucepan over medium heat. You bring the pot to a rolling boil.

Then reduce the heat to low and add the flour. Once that's in, stir like you've never stirred before until the mix forms a ball. Remove it from the heat and let it rest for 5 to 7 minutes.

After the 5 to 7 minutes, add the eggs one at a time and stir until combined. Set the whole thing aside.

The recipe video does call out a fun fact, that over 5.5 million churros get eaten every year at Disney Parks — which honestly seems a little low, considering I'm pretty sure I eat about a million of them every time I get a chance to visit.

In a medium skillet or 1-quart sauce pan, heat the oil over medium-high heat or until the temperature reaches 350 degrees.

Spoon the dough into a piping bag fitted with a large star tip. Pipe 1-inch strips of the dough over the saucepan, cut with a knife or spoon, and carefully drop them into the hot oil. Repeat that until the churro bites fill the saucepan with room to fry.

If you don't have a piping bag, you could also potentially use a ziplock bag. This will probably mean your churros won't have that classic churro shape, but honestly — it's fried dough! Who cares what shape it is?

Fry the churro bites until they're that perfect, angelic golden brown, and then carefully remove them with a slotted spoon or mesh spider strainer. Drain the churro bites on paper towels.

In a medium bowl, mix the sugar and ½ teaspoon of the cinnamon. Toss in the churro bites into that magical little mixture until they're all coated.

The chefs at Disney suggest placing them on a serving plate, but personally, I'll just be eating them out of the cinnamon sugar bowl. No point in dirtying another dish! We're among friends here; no one will judge you.

If you really want to get fancy, you can serve them with your favorite dipping sauce.

And there you have it! Bon apple-tea, everyone! And please wash your hands thoroughly and be mindful about licking off all the sweetness from your fingers!

Plus, don't forget Disney gave us the recipe to whip up some frozen treats!

Oh, and if you're really missing the parks, ShopDisney is having a pretty awesome sale right now, and they have a bunch of products that you'd normally only be able to buy in the park!
